Railway embankment rehabilitation using Mixed-in-Place method
During a full closure of the railway line between Neukirchen and Vilseck, around 42,000 m² Mixed-in-Place panels were constructed as single panels – including roughly 2,700 single panels on three different railway embankments. To comply with the strict schedule and reopen the line for railway traffic as quickly as possible, six working crews carried out the drilling work, using two machines each in day and night shifts. A real feat of strength for the specialists from Bauer Spezialtiefbau. To further stabilize the embankment, roughly 50,000 m2 of geogrids were laid, along with the installation of 10,000 t of bentonite and 180 t of flow agent. What makes this project unique: This project was the first time the MIP method was used on a railway embankment.
