Lock construction in large scale

XXL excavation pits for the Kriegenbrunn Lock

What is being built here in the south of Erlangen is one of the most significant infrastructure projects in German inland waterway construction: the replacement of the Kriegenbrunn Lock. 330 m long, almost 30 m deep and 8,000 tons of steel pipe stiffeners – the main excavation pit sets new standards even in specialist foundation engineering. Drilling rigs of types BG 55, BG 45, and BG 39 are being used to drive piles up to 2 m in diameter and 37 m in length – each one precisely positioned to ensure the stability of the main excavation pit. The result: a foundation that will secure shipping traffic on the Main-Danube Canal for generations to come. With precision, digital planning, and real teamwork, our experts, together with ZÜBLIN, are making possible what is hardly imaginable on this scale. A true project of the century!
