Soil improvement on A26 near Hamburg
Expansion and new building of highways in Germany makes an important contribution to relieving traffic on the road network. This is also true for the four-lane expansion of the A26 highway between Cuxhaven and Hamburg as well as the connection from the A26 to the A7. As part of the expansion to the southwest of Hamburg, Bauer executed extensive works, including: 12,100 m² of soil improvement using geotextile-encased sand columns as well as 3,000 m² of secant pile wall. The location of the new highway section of the A26 in a moor region posed a particular challenge, which is why the subsoil had to be stabilized with extensive soil improvement measures. In addition, a tunnel is to be built beneath the existing harbor dam railway using the trough construction method. This was a large project with many challenges.
