Cut-off wall work for New Assiut barrage
The Assiut barrage is a barrier across the Nile River in the heart of Upper Egypt. With the vision of modern waterway infrastructure and the integration of power generation capabilities, the experts from Bauer Egypt were tasked in part with building the “New Assiut Barrage.” The scope of services also included installing a temporary single-phase cut-off wall, a vertical well and a two-phase cut-off wall. The temporary single-phase cut-off wall encompassed a total of 60,000 m² for the ring dam. For the seepage water block, 12,000 m² of two-phase cut-off wall were constructed. Other tasks included rectangular foundation elements and a permanent diaphragm wall for the “closure dam.” To connect the new lock structure with the old barrage, a secant pile wall was created. A large project with many challenges and a resounding success.
