Shafts for Subika Mine in Ghana

Shafts that write the future

In the Sefwi volcano belt in Ghana, our experts from Bauer Spezialtiefbau constructed guide walls and three shafts for the Ahafo Mine. Two shafts are for ventilation, the third for conveying excavated material. For the RAR shaft (diameter 5.1 m), 29 secant piles, four support piles and one center pile were installed up to a depth of 31 m. The material removal shaft was outfitted with piles made of fiber-reinforced concrete for maximum abrasion resistance. In terms of geology, the work encountered hard gabbro with a compressive strength of up to 293 MPa. Thanks to state-of-the-art technology, Bauer mastered these challenging conditions and established a stable basis for the mine expansion.
