Hydroelectric power plant Site C in Canada
BC Hydro is constructing the third hydroelectric power plant on the Peace River in British Columbia. The dam, near Fort St. John, delivers clean, renewable energy for the province. With an output of 1,100 MW and yearly production of 5,100 GWh, it will be able to deliver enough electricity for roughly 450,000 households. For this project, the experts from Bauer Spezialtiefbau installed a 80,000 m² cut-off wall – with a length of more than 3.7 km and a depth of up to 25 m. The geological conditions were particularly challenging, as the subsoil was composed of sandstone and mudstone. Despite harsh wintry conditions, works were executed around the clock in order to keep on schedule.
