Dam rehabilitation for Sylvenstein Dam
Our experts from Bauer Spezialtiefbau constructed a 1 m thick diaphragm wall in 2012 as the first stage of rehabilitation for the Sylvenstein Dam. The diaphragm wall was installed up to a staggering depth of 70 m. The dam, which was constructed from 1954-1959, was updated with a modern cut-off wall and a seepage water control system. The 42 m tall dam on a 100 m deep erosion pit in the main dolomite was sealed off with grout injections. The diaphragm wall was placed up to 70 m deep based on investigation drilling to prevent suffusion. Working from the 180 m long dam crest, 10,000 m² of cut-off wall were constructed in total. Excavation in the upper area was carried out with a grab, and then proceeded – up to a maximum depth of 70 m including socketing each panel into the rock – using a BAUER BC 40 cutter. A large project with many challenges, but that was no problem for our experts.
