Dam rehabilitation for Center Hill Dam in Tennessee
The Center Hill Dam Foundation Remediation Project is located on the Caney Fork River, 96 km east of Nashville, Tennessee. This dam, classified as high risk by the United States Army Corp of Engineers (USACE), needed rehabilitation. The core of the rehabilitation project was the construction of a cut-off wall that will act as a seepage barrier. For this project, Bauer executed two key tasks: an encircling diaphragm wall with approx. 9,900 m2 and a cut-off wall with approx. 20,500 m2. The 2.25 m thick encircling diaphragm wall protected the dam during the excavation of the cut-off wall. The cut-off wall, up to 95 m deep, was made up of overlapping panels and eliminated the need for the planned piles at the joints thanks to the outstanding capacity of the Bauer cutter. With concrete strengths of up to 35 MPa for the diaphragm wall and 210 MPa for the rock, our team exceeded the requirements of the USACE.
