Cut-off wall work for Bagatelle Dam in Mauritius

For the regional drinking water supply

On the picturesque Terre Rouge River, 20 km southeast of Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius, the Bagatelle Dam project was completed successfully. This is a new dam that forms the centerpiece of a rainwater retention system and supports the regional drinking water supply. The clay concrete cut-off wall installed by BAUER Spezialtiefbau GmbH acts as an essential vertical cut-off element, combined with an embankment to complete the system. Implementation was highly challenging, with the excavation of 20,000 m² of moderately weathered basalt as well as cutting through slightly weathered basalt. Three main sections were defined, adapting to the varied local geology. But that was far from all: The different height levels of the terrain between the sections also posed a challenge for our experts.
