Foundation work for Makassar New Port 1A
The city of Makassar is set to become a central city for eastern Indonesia. The existing port therefore needed to be expanded to support logistics traffic. To realize this project, Pelindo IV, the Indonesian port authority, planned the construction of a new port on a newly reclaimed island about 2 km off the coast of Makassar. This port has a total depth of 16 m to handle large cargo ships, making it the largest in eastern Indonesia. For the so-called 1A phase, our experts from Bauer Indonesia were commissioned for the first 500 meters. The new island was backfilled with sand and the piling works consist of 880 mm and 1180 mm diameter bored piles and 1180 mm diameter secant piles for a harbor quay wall, with an average drilling length of 28 m from ground level. Double-walled casing was used for this new island project.
